The most high-performance cars? Only at Romeo Ferraris!

To make a car fast and agile, horsepower is not enough. What is fundamental is the power-to-weight ratio, the result of careful engineering analysis during the design and development phase. Romeo Ferraris has always distinguished itself in this field, thanks to the knowledge acquired on the track and transferred to the tuning of road cars.

Nevertheless, in today's automotive industry it is increasingly complicated to find those famous “feather” weights, due to technological advancements, which often lead to a progressive increase in the vehicles' weight. The magazine “CarBuzz” has compiled a ranking of the ten lightest sports cars currently on sale. Among these, two cars have been part of the Romeo Ferraris family for a long time, and they are models characterized by their driving pleasure and uncompromising performance.

Primarily, the Morgan Plus Four, an iconic model from the Malvern-based manufacturer, which recently celebrated 75 years of production. Since September 29, 1950, it has been updated, but without altering its original design, still featuring the sinuous wings, the hand-crafted louvered bonnet, and the canvas soft top today. However, it’s not just about aesthetics, as under the body it features the two-liter inline four-cylinder engine, a lightweight powertrain that offers unique driving sensations and a torque of nearly 350 Nm.

The Plus Four can be considered the pure expression of a Morgan sports car, acting as a link between the past and present, thanks to the sought-after balance between modern engineering and artisanal techniques handed down over time.

The second model featured in the ranking fully reflects the parameters of lightness, driving pleasure, and sportiness. It is a true queen of the “super-lightweight” sector: the Caterham Seven 170. Thanks to its incredible weight of 440 kg, the 82 hp unit is capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, giving the driver the sensations of a V8 but in an agile and snappy cornering car. The result is a power-to-weight ratio exceeding 170 hp per ton, capable of becoming a symbol of the automotive market for over 60 years.

Caterham offers two alternative packages for the Seven 170. The S-Pack includes exclusive elements inside the cockpit aimed at enhancing the aesthetic character of the smallest in the range; conversely, the R-Pack is the version for driving purists, thanks to a sports suspension package, lightweight flywheel, 4-point racing harnesses, and other “racing” elements.
