The 2021 season kicked-off in unmatchable fashion for the Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris, which have dominated the first 2021 round of the Australia Racing Series, held at Symmons Plains on mid-week days during the celebrations of Australia Day. The cars built by the Opera-based car maker have been on the top of the rankings since the first session of free practice, trusting the first four positions.

The fastest lap time was posted by the expert Lee Holdsworth, entered by Ashley Seward Motorsport. The Melbourne drivers repeated the feat on the second session on Monday morning, signing then the pole position ahead of the sister cars of Jordan Cox (Garry Rogers Motorsport) and teammate Jay Hanson. At the start of Race-1, Cox pipped Holdsworth, taking the lead. After a few laps, the poleman reacted and took the lead from the GRM driver, while behind them, rookie Hanson passed Chaz Mostert, dropping though to seventh after the race following a penalty.

On Tuesday, Cox took his revenge, winning both the two races scheduled for the day. The duel between poleman Holdsworth and Cox repeated itself in Race 2, but this time, the Garry Rogers Motorsport driver pulled away once in the lead, beating several times the TCR lap time record and taking a well-deserved a maiden win in the series ahead of Holdsworth, giving the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris a great result.

Thanks to his success in Race 2, Cox  started from the pole in Race 3. After a few laps, he had to concede the lead to Holdsworth, who in the meantime had received a 5-second penalty for a jump start. By remaining under his rival’s tail, Cox took his second win of the day, while the Ash Seward Motorsport was demoted to third. Hanson finished again in P7, while Michael Caruso, in GRM’ s other Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris di GRM, managed to finish in the top-10 after lacking luck in the previous two races.

Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“To start 2021 with such great news is certainly a morale boost for our company. 2020 has been a challenging year, although it brought many satisfactions. Still, our customer racing programmed had suffered some backslashes, with the Australian series being the first to be cancelled because of the pandemic. We are all very happy with these results, which prove how well-performing and competitive our cars continue to be in 2021. While we keep busy with our innovative Giulia ETCR project, we are committed to continuing assisting our customers around the world”.
