Team Mulsanne is delighted to announce its driver line-up for the 2020 season of the FIA WTCR: the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris fielded by the Italian team will be driven by Jean-Karl Vernay. Born in Villeurbanne on 31st October 1987, the Frenchman is one of the most experienced drivers on the TCR international scene, having won 19 races, four of which in the WTCR, on top of being also a very reputed GT driver. Jean-Karl won the TCR International Series title in 2017, as well as the 2010 Indy Lights and the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMGTE Am class, showing an incredible polyvalent talent.

Vernay’s appointment will constitute a solid base for Team Mulsanne, ahead of a season where it will be almost impossible to do testing given the compact calendar and which presents also a key technical change with the introduction of a new tyre supplier, a factor that Jean-Karl will be able to handle perfectly given his experience.

Jean-Karl’s debut will take place at the collective tests at the Salzburgring on the 10th of September, shortly before the official kick-off of the season on the same Austrian track. Both Vernay and Team Mulsanne know well the track, although this will represent their debut together.

Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“We are extremely happy to welcome Jean-Karl in our family. The choice of Jean-Karl stems from a detailed analysis of the required characteristics for our driver this year. In the past, we have made choices that represented also a kind of bet. It worked out well, but we took some risks, which is something we cannot afford to do in a year such as 2020. We think that Vernay offers solid certainties, which is what we need. The 2020 FIA WTCR entails a huge investment for us that we have decided to undertake also to second the organizational effort put in place by Eurosport Events, with a view to contributing to the common endeavor of strengthening motorsports in the not easy times that we are living.”

“I was waiting anxiously this moment! I am delighted to announce having reached an agreement with Team Mulsanne to drive the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris. In recent years, I have had the opportunity to know Team Mulsanne and I am very happy to join them. Although Romeo Ferraris is certainly a smaller constructor with respect to the other brands, I was always impressed by their passion and determination and by the results they were able to conquer in the FIA WTCR, the most important championship for Touring cars thanks also to the great promotion work of Eurosport Events. I’m confident me and the team can be consistent and for this reason the target could be finish in the Top-10 in the standings. I really look forward to the start of the season after such a long break and I feel completely boosted.”
