Last FIA WTCR 2020 stop at Motorland Aragón for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris
The last round of the 2020 FIA WTCR is around the corner for Team Mulsanne. The series will take again the track at Motorland Aragón near Alcañiz, as the works being carried at Adrida to lengthen the track are requiring more time and have forced the series organizers to chose another location for the season-closer. The Spanish track already hosted the world’s top touring car competition two weeks ago, when the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris has conquered its first win of the season.
Jean-Karl Vernay was extremely fast since qualifying, confirming the predictions that the car built at Opera would be competitive on the long straights and fast corners of Aragón. At the eve of the last three races of the season, Vernay is still mathematically in the race for the overall title, as he lies fourth in the standings, only one point shy from the podium. Thanks to his five successes, the French driver of Team Mulsanne is also leading the rankings in the FIA WTCR Trophy.
This weekend will be back to action also the second Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris, again entrusted to Luca Filippi, who is back for the fourth outing foreseen in his programme. The Piedmont driver was due to contest his home race in Italy, but the switch of location now brings him to Spain, where his rivals have the advantage of having raced there a fortnight ago.
Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“At Aragón, we signed our first overall win of the season and our Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris has proved to be at ease on the Spanish track. It’s a pity not to have a home race at Adria, but to go back to Motorland is certainly positive for us and we aim at wrapping the season on a high. Jean-Karl Vernay and the entire Team Mulsanne have done an excellent job and to reach the season-closer still in a position to fight for the championship is almost a dream for us, considering the starting point of our 2020 season. I am also happy to see back with us Luca Filippi, who has found himself very comfortable with the Giulietta during the season and I am sure he can perform well at Motorland, despite having to face an experience handicap with respect to those who have had the opportunity of racing there in the previous round.”
