The 2018 FIA WTCR season came to a closing with another meaningful weekend for Team Mulsanne and Romeo Ferraris, who entered the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR developed at Opera in the world series. The final round of the season, on the spectacular urban track of Macau, brought further heavy points and valuable indications for the future, thanks to Kevin Ceccon and Luigi Ferrara, following up nicely on the historic pole and win at Suzuka.

After winning in Japan, Ceccon quickly learnt another track new to him, the Guia Circuit: the driver from Bergamo came again very close to the podium in Race 2, taking P4 before collecting P7 in Race 3. The former AutoGP champion had to retire in Race 1, after falling an innocent victim of the traditional first lap pile-up at the Lisboa corner. Moreover, Kevin made it again to Q2 in qualifying, for the third consecutive time after Wuhan and Suzuka, proving the excellent speed performance level of the Italian car.

It was an excellent weekend also for his team mate Gigi Ferrara, on what was only his second appearance in the World Cup. His progress was rewarded with a double top-10, as he came in 9th in Race 1 and 8th in Race 2. Unfortunately, in Race 3 the driver from Bari was eliminated by a contact from a rival. Race 2, it is worth to note, yielded great satisfaction for Team Mulsanne and Romeo Ferraris, as both the Alfa Romeos scored points, something that had happened only once during the season, at the Slovakiaring.

Team Mulsanne and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris finished tenth in the Teams’ rankings, with 142 points, all obtained in the second half of the season, and only 2 points behind the team in 9th, Comtoyou. Among drivers, Kevin Ceccon is 14th with 102 points, while the 8 points gathered at Macau allowed Gigi Ferrara to become the 31st driver scoring points this year.

Michela Cerruti, Operations Manager Romero Ferraris
“Macau put an end to the World Cup season and we are happy to have been able to demonstrate once again the growing potential of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR. Without their two contacts, Kevin and Gigi would have harvested an even greater number of points, but what we have achieved during the weekend is meaningful and gives us a great boost ahead winter work and next season. I want to thank Dr. Riccardo Ceccarelli from Formula Medicine for the support lent over the weekend.

Kevin Ceccon
“Being able to race for the first time on a legendary track as Macau has been a great joy and an unforgettable experience. And so is having collected some good results, as the 4th in Race 2. I would have wished to  celebrate a podium finish, but I am happy to contribute a positive follow-up to our great Suzuka weekend. This half-season in the WTCR has been a wonderful journey for me and I thank Michela Cerruti and Team Mulsanne for the opportunity”.

Gigi Ferrara
“To score points in such a competitive series as the WTCR, on my second weekend in the championship while racing for the first time at Macau, is a tremendous satisfaction. I proved able to adapt quickly to the new environment and to be competitive at the wheel of an excellent car such as the Giulietta TCR developed by Romeo Ferraris. After taking runner-up honour in the TCR Italy, I couldn’t think of  better way to finish the season.”
