Team Mulsanne and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris wrapped up the season in the global series for touring car racing, the FIA WTCR, conquering the WTCR Trophy. The last round, held again at Motorland Aragon, has seen Jean-Karl Vernay take the title for Independent drivers and conclude an incredible third in the overall standings. The Frenchman concluded only one point short from runner-up honours, confirming the fantastic work done by the Opera-based constructor in a year full of challenges, not only of sporting nature, against a competition with much greater resources.

Vernay arrived in Spain already as third in the overall standings and as the leader in the WTCR Trophy, where the mathematical certainty of the title came after Race 2, where he took second. Fifth in the grid of Race 1, the Frenchman had to kick-off on the part of the track with less rubber but later recovered to finish eighth and score useful points. In the final Race 3, he took another podium finish, thanks to P3, and his eighth success in the WTCR Trophy.

Vernay ends the season with 194 points, having scored in 15 of the 16 races, an impeccable results sheet which contains podium finishes also in Hungary and Slovakia and a win in Race 1 in the first Spanish round, which is the third success for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris in the reference series at global level for touring car racing.

In the season-closer of the FIA WTCR, Team Mulsanne again entered a second Giulietta Veloce TCR for Luca Filippi, who in Race 2 achieved to finish in the top-10 (9th) showing a good performance level at the wheel of the Italian car.

Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“An incredible season, which probably went beyond our expectations, comes to an end. We went from not considering in the world series to find ourselves fighting for the title in the last round, finishing third with Jean-Karl Vernay, only one point from runner-up, and dominating the WTCR Trophy for Independent drivers. It’s probably one of the nicest moments in the history of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR project undertaken by Romeo Ferraris and Team Mulsanne, fighting against giants of motorsport, who have technical and financial means well above ours. We can be proud of what achieved, especially given the fact that we couldn’t deploy the same team strategies of those who have up to four cars entered. I want to thank our driver Jean-Karl Vernay and Luca Filippi for his contribution in the weekends when he joined us, as well as all the personnel of Romeo Ferraris and Team Mulsanne, who have given everything in a year made more challenging by the pandemic. I also wish to congratulate warmly Yann Ehrlacher, Cyan Racing and Lynk & Co for their titles”.
