The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris returns to Suzuka for the FIA WTCR
One year later, to the same place where in 2018, Team Mulsanne has written a wonderful page of motorsports history, returning an Alfa Romeo to victory in the world touring car series thanks to the Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris. Since then, the car built at Opera has undergone a restyling and proven to be a winner in FIA WTCR and in TCR national series, thanks also to the triumphant weekend at Suzuka, where Kevin Ceccon took pole position, one win and two podium finishes. The 2019 harvest, with Ma Qing Hua joining the Italian driver, reflects a steady growth of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris, which has scored points since the season-opener at Marrakesh, winning and collecting trophies in Slovakia, and finishing on the podium also in Portugal and China. The Suzuka round, though, will represent a new challenge, as the track layout used won’t be the Grand-Prix one anymore but the shorter (2243 meters-long) East configuration, which already hosted the World Touring Car Championship from 2011 to 2013. The change has been decided during the season and was necessary to comply with the FIA safety rules. The race programme will also include a round of the TCR Japan, where are competing two other Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris.
Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“To be back to Suzuka will be an incredible moment for our team, as it will bring back to memory the incredible achievement of last year. But we know that this year it’s a different story and even the track won’t be the same. It’s a pity, because we lose what I believe is one of the most beautiful tracks in the calendar, but using the East variant will be a novelty for everybody. Kevin and Qing Hua have proved during the season to be able to fight for the front positions, even if I expect races to be heavily conditioned by the qualifying results, given the difficulty to overtake on the East track. To have our customers in the TCR Japan in action during the same weekend will allow us to assist them even more closely, in an event that will attract a huge crowd, as always in Japan”.
