The Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferris back to WTCR in China
The FIA WTCR resumes next weekend with the seventh round, on the Chinese track of Ningbo, which opens the exciting final tour in Asia. To mitigate the long break since July, when took place the last round in Slovakia, Romeo Ferraris has entered its Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR in the Monza races of the TCR Europe last 22-23 September.
Under the banner of Team Mulsanne, the reference team for the cars built at Opera, Fabrizio Giovanardi has taken part as “wild card” to the TCR Europe, certainly remembering the three FIA ETCC title he conquered in 2000, 2001 and 2002, precisely with Alfa Romeo cars.
With his usual determination, materialized in many overtakes, the driver from Emilia has collected two finishes in the points: 7th in Race 1 where he started 20th, and 8th in Race 2 starting from P21 on the grid. Giovanardi brilliantly bounced back from a difficult qualifying resulting from the accident on Friday’s free practice, which forced the team to extra night work to repair the #18 Giulietta TCR.
The Monza results well wishing ahead of resuming activity in the world series, where the first points of the season where collected at the Slovakia Ring. Christened in 2017, the Ningbo track is a complete novelty for the team, which will use Friday’s two free practice sessions to set up its Alfa Romeo cars. Giovanardi will again have as team mate Kevin Ceccon, who after debuting at the Slovakia Ring, has now been confirmed for the rest of the season, including the at Macau’s prestigious closing round mid-November. In the meantime, the promising young driver from Bergamo has entertained fans in the TCR Italy round at Vallelunga, narrowly missing the pole position and the podium at the wheel of a Giulietta entered by Team Mulsanne.
Shortly after Ningbo, on 6-7 October, the WTCR will again be on show in China, this time at the Wuhan street circuit, a much-appreciated shop window for Romeo Ferraris, already present on this crucial market thanks to clients that have chosen the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR.
Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“We are ready to be back on the FIA WTCR world stage following a summer break which has seen anyway in action our cars, in the Italian and European TCR series. Ningbo is something completely new for us, where our rivals will have the advantage of knowing already the track. Still, we’ll try to maximize free practice time to prepare for qualifying and races. The objective is to score more points with Fabrizio and Kevin, after having harvested the first fruits of our work in Slovakia. We aim at some good results in such an important market as China, where we have already been able to export our car”.
