The most fascinating round in the FIA WTCR calendar, taking place on the 25,378 kilometers of the Nürburgring’s legendary Nordschleife has seen the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris shining. In action with Jean-Karl Vernay, Team Mulsanne has harvested a 9th in Race-1 and a 6th in Race-2, which have brought the first success among the cars of the WTCR Trophy, the new competition introduced this year in the series promoted by Eurosport.

The French driver has put together two great charges, in a weekend marked by the constantly changing weather conditions, a tradition in the track dubbed the ‘Green hell’. Eighth in Thursday’s qualifying session, at sunset and on a dry track, the Italian team has reacted well to the arrival of the rain, making good use of the new Goodyear tyres.

In Race-1, the Frenchman has climbed back to 9th, after starting from the back of the grid because of an engine change. In Race-2, on the Saturday, he conquered a valuable P6, defended fiercely in the closing phases. The results meant victory in the WTCR Trophy, where Vernay is second in the standings with 29 points, while in the Overall classification he lies 8th with 37 points.

The FIA WTCR next round is scheduled on 10-11 October at the Slovakia Ring, a track theoretically favorable to the cars built in Opera, which will have the traditional form of 3 races and will see the return of the ‘wild card’ Luca Filippi.

Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“We are satisfied of the weekend at the Nordschleife, which yielded positive overall results and the great satisfaction to conquer together with Jean-Karl Vernay our first success in the WTCR Trophy. On a track so challenging and treacherous, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris has proven competitive in all track and grip conditions. We see it as revenge on a track where we lived many misfortunes in the past. We now look ahead to the rest of the 2020 top global series with renewed confidence and look forward to the next stop at the Slovakia Ring, where we will have again two cars on track, with Luca Filippi as our wild card”.
