It was a sweet closing to the European part of the FIA WTCR season for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris, which in the sixth round of the season at Vila Real have increased their points tally and conquered one podium finish. Team Mulsanne, which is now preparing for the long Asian tour which will debut in September at Ningbo, has brought home 34 points in the Portuguese event with Ma Qing Hua and Kevin Ceccon. The Chinese driver visited again the podium after his win in Slovakia; thanks to the tenth position in Q2, he started from pole position in the inverted grid for Race 3. With a perfect start, Qing Hua was able to lead the race until the Joker Lap, where he lost the first spot, still retaining though an excellent second position, which is a perfect booster for the Chinese ahead of his home race. Ceccon was less lucky, although not less effective. Losing some positions in the grid of Race-1 because of penalties from previous events, he climbed back to finish very close to the points on a complicated and challenging track as Vila Real. In Q2, after being second-fastest in the initial part of the session, he lost the car hitting the barriers. Repaired on time by the crew of the Italian team, the car was hit twice during Race-2 by Michelisz, later penalized by the Stewards. Both cars then scored points in Race-3.

Michela Cerruti, Operations Manager Romeo Ferraris

“When you spend so much time together on the tracks, far from home, it is absolutely normal that strong bonds between the members of all teams get formed, and the WTCR is a like a big family. On behalf of the whole Romeo Ferraris and Team Mulsanne squads and on my personal name, I want to express my deepest sympathy to Cyan Racing for the passing-away of one of their members during the weekend. In such moments, results and track activity become secondary, although it is our work and what we do for passion. The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR proved very competitive on a track like Vila Real, confirming that the 2019 restyle has brought its fruits. Both Kevin and Qing Hua have done some mistakes during the weekend, but it is unavoidable in a series so dramatically competitive and where you are always at the limit. Now we have some weeks of rest, although we will be working to assist our customers in the various TCR series throughout the world, as we have always done”.
