Besides the great results in the FIA WTCR, with Team Mulsanne and Jean-Karl Vernay conquering a final third position overall and the Independents title, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris is confirming its potential in other national and international series this year.
The most recent outing has been at the Macau Guia Race, the event for TCR cars in the framework of the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. The Endless team field one of the cars built at Opera for Yiu Lung, who performed well in Sunday’s top race, finishing 9th on the always challenging Chinese street track after starting from P15 in the grid.
It was an excellent season in the TC America for Roy Block, defending the colours of KMW Motorsport with TMR Engineering. The Argentine has finished fourth in the standings with 182 points, only one away from third, thanks to seven podium finishes, which adds to the one conquered by teammate Tim Lewis Jr, at the wheel of another Giulietta TCR, at Elkhart Lake.
Also in North America, KMW Motorsport with TMR Engineering was committed in a parallel programme, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, with the pair composed of Block and Lewis Jr finishing eighth in their class. Their best result was a 4th, clinched twice, at Road America in August and at Sebring in November.
In Japan, the national TCR series is still underway and sees the presence of no less than three cars by the Italian factory: a Veloce version for Mineki Okura, racing for M-Prototyping Team Stile Corse, and two units of the previous version driven by “Mototino” and Junichi Umemoto, fielded by 55 Moto with J’S Racing. Following the first three weekends held at Motegi, Okayama and Autopolis, Okura is fifth in the “Sunday Series” standings, which includes all races held on Sundays, while Unemoto is seventh in the “Saturday Series”. Mototino is eighth in both rankings.
Denmark also inaugurated a TCR championship this year, with Insight Racing entering two Giulietta: one for Jacob Mathiassen and one for Norway’s Kristian Saetheren in the Under 23 trophy. Mathiassen has finished fifth in the championship, after collecting two wins, both at the Jyllandsringen and plans to be back in 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions did not allow the TCR Australia to take place. Ready for the season were five Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris, entered by Garry Rogers Motorsport and Ashley Seward Motorsport. The series organizers are now working on a provisional calendar for 2021.
